Canterbury has a number of strategic associates located throughout the United States offering our clients not located in the greater Washington area an on-site cost effective delivery mechanism. Canterbury provides financial management, analytical, process improvement and forensic accounting services to government and corporate executives and financial managers. Biographies
Ms. JoAnn Schittulli, Founder and CEO
Ms. Schittulli is the founder and CEO of Canterbury Resources Inc. She is an experienced administrator, manager, and leader with 25 years of successful execution in business practices, financial management modeling, performance budgeting, accounting, cost analysis, and contract financing for multifaceted operations. Ms. Schittulli earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Business Administration from the George Washington University School of Business.
Ms. Schittulli’s initial experience included accounting and financial control at a local Washington D.C. defense contractor. When this company was acquired by Cambridge Technology Group, a successful Washington-based private equity investment capital firm for emerging growth companies, Ms. Schittulli joined the management team and within several years ascended to become the company’s CFO.
Her experience as a chief financial officer and as a financial management consultant enables her to conduct business and financial process reviews and analyses, assist in the implementation of business process modeling and redesign, benchmarking, performance budgeting, financial statement auditing, audit liaison support, and internal control reviews in the public and private sectors.
Ms. Schittulli served for the past eight years, as a defense contractor employee, as the program manager for the Department of Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) Team, a diverse group of 40+ professionals from three different companies. Ms. Schittulli assembled and managed the project team and their efforts on behalf of the US Navy to assess, validate and document the financial processes and internal controls at the NAVSEA Headquarters and its General Fund field activities, including documenting other stakeholders’ roles in the process. She led the team through the completion of the discovery, validation, assertion and attestation phases of the project, which involved the assessment and testing of internal controls and the confirmation that corrective actions had been taken at the headquarters and General Fund field activities. Ms. Schittulli was a key designated NAVSEA audit liaison for the DoD Inspector General and General Accounting Office examination on the DON line item, Environmental and Disposal Liabilities for all nuclear-powered and conventional weapons, active and inactive vessels, and spent nuclear fuel of the Weapon Systems Program. As well as, she represented NAVSEA at ASN/FMO meetings, providing presentations on NAVSEA’s financial improvement efforts and audit liaison support. By the request of the NAVSEA Comptroller, Ms. Schittulli presented on the Team’s FIAR efforts to the NAVSEA executive leadership and the Business Financial Manager Community on numerous occasions.
Augmenting Ms. Schittulli’s financial experience, she also has approximately 10 years of health care related experience. During a tenure at IBM, she was a senior consultant on several IBM Safe & Lean Diagnostic Assessment Projects for the Massachusetts General Hospital, Novant Health-Presbyterian Hospital and MedStar Health. Her efforts on these projects included developing business cases, financial modeling and cost benefit analyses for the goals and objectives related to several major capital investment initiatives. Her prior related health care experience included four years working as a Registered Nurse Clinical Nurse IV- Weekend Coordinator/Head Nurse on a general surgical unit at the George Washington University Medical Center and three years at INOVA Corporation, Mt. Vernon Hospital, on the Head Trauma, Spinal Cord Injury & Cerebrovascular Rehabilitation Unit.
